Saving energy is not only going to save money, but you also reduce the demand for oil, coal and natural gas. Less burning of these fuels also means there will be lower emissions of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a major cause of global warming today. On Average, an individual in the United States creates forty thousand pounds of CO2 emissions every year. Together, we use about a million dollars worth each minute. We believe it is time to step up and learn about conserving energy. By using some of our tips in the paragraphs below, you could cut those annual emissions, not to mention the fact that your light bill will be cheaper.
Nearly every individual has a refrigerator in their home or apartment. If you would like to conserve power, try turning the refrigerator down. Use a thermometer so that you can set the temperature of the refrigerator as close to thirty seven degrees and the freezer as close to three degrees as possible. If you have an power saver switch, then make sure that is turned on. Make sure you check the gaskets around the doors to make sure the refrigerator is tightly sealed. When it is not tightly sealed, you will be wasting electricity.
The air filters should also be cleaned or replaced. When air conditioners have dirty filters, they have to work even hard to draw the air through those dirty filters. Cleaning the filter will save five percent of the power being used. If you look at it this way, it could save one hundred and seventy five pounds of CO2 in a given year.
We are going to state the obvious one here, but we feel that people need to be reminded of this one. When no one is in the room, turn the lights off. This goes for any rooms that are not currently being occupied. As soon as you walk out of the room, if you are the last person in that room, then shut the switch off. You probably do not believe us, but by doing this, you will be saving a lot of energy.
You don't really need to wash your clothes in hot water. If you would like to save electricity, wash those clothes in cold water.
Cold water works just as good as warm water does and it will prevent those colors from bleeding. Not to mention the fact that you will be saving electricity that normally would have gone to heating the water up. You should also only wash the clothes when you have a full load to do.
When you are washing your dishes, instead of running the water constantly, fill the sink up with warm water and wash them. Also, when you are brushing your teeth, keep the water off until you go to rinse your mouth.
As you see, conserving energy is easy to do. All you have to do is make a couple of simple changes and that's all. If every individual did this, just think of how much energy would be conserved.
